Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I don't make resolutions. I always hope to engage my in a better life and work on myself but it's not a resolution per se.
Did anyone close to you give birth? A classmate. :)
Did anyone close to you die? Thankfully, no.
What countries did you visit? This is one of the few years I have not left the country. I hope sometime (probably not though...) I will get to go back to England to see family.
What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008? That's an interesting question... I'd like to find love. A love who that is lasting and commitment... a future. I have a boyfriend who I love but I am not sure that's what that is...
What dates in 2008 will remain etched in your memory and why? We were talking about dates today in my counseling class. I have such a terrible concept of time it's unreal. The summer will be etched in my memory. I was a camp counselor at a camp for children and adolescents with specal needs. I sometimes think I had more fun than the campers did! If life could be like that and I could subside on the pay... I would be in heaven! I identify with Monica's milestones with the sprout. I am so proud of him and all his accomplishments. I wish I could be closer!
In 2008, I got a 4.0 in grad school... (still have it p.s. wahooooooo!)
What was your biggest achievement of the year? A 4.0 in grad school. Recieving award for best camp counselor at Angelwood.
What was your biggest failure? Not sure, here. Best not to focus on failure anyway, and just press on... (I agree with Monica)
What was the best thing you bought? I LOVE buying gifts... I guess the canvas portrait for my parents of the family :)
Did you suffer illness or injury? Migraines... as usual. I got bit at camp. Had bronchitis...
Whose behavior merited celebration? The sprout's. (TOTALLY keeping that!!!!) Kids at camp who I saw talk and sign more. Counselors (including me) who learnt more about our children and what they were going through.
Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? Disappointment is a fact of life.
Where did most of your money go? Life stuff.
What did you get really excited about? Hearing about David and his signing... seeing pictures... anything David related! Doing well in grad school. Trips to Atlanta to see my bff, her daughter, and my bf.
What song will always remind you of 2008? Waiting for my life to being by Colin Hays.
Compared to this time last year, are you: Currently, I'd have to say I am less excited about life and happy... Last year was better...
Thinner or fatter? Same... I think... I tend to plump up for winter... don't wanna be cold :)
Richer or poorer? Richer
How did you spend Christmas? In Orlando with my family.
Did you fall in love in 2007? 2007... isn't that 2 years ago... and yes I did.
How many 1-night stands? None.
What was your favorite TV program? I have so many I will have to do recents... Celebrity Rehab (Dr. Drew is like my dream lover... is that weird?) and Skins on BBC America... :)
What was the best book you read? I read so many books on break I can't even remember. I read books about McLean Psychiatric Hospital which were reallllly interesting. I read Girl, Interupted for the first time after loving the movie. I read Beautiful Boy and his son's book.. they were interesting...
What was your greatest musical discovery? Rediscovering Pink... yeah top 40's pop... don't judge me. :P
Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? Hatred is a waste of energy, (Agreeing with Monica again)
What did you want and get? Great grades.
What did you want and not get? No more migraines.
What was your favorite film of this year? I laughed really hard at Leaving Sarah Marshall. I am not a big movie person.
What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? My birthday was not what it was in Atlanta... but we went to the beach.
What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? Feeling like Jacksonville was home.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007? Fashion bores me. As long as I'm protected against the elements, and not violating any obscenity laws, I'm good. (I agree here to.... and still with the 2007....)
What kept you sane? Never claimed sanity. ;)
Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? The boy that died in Skins on BBC America :( who is also in Doctor Who.
What political issue stirred you the most? Amendment 2 in FL. Prop h8 in CA. Very sad.
Who did you miss? My Atlanta. My old place in Atlanta. Being able to hang out with my Atlanta friends on a moments notice. My BTG job. David. His parents.
Who was the best new person you met? My multicultural teacher... she is from the Phillipines and has very interesting stories about moving to America
Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008. Just keep swimming, just keep swimming.... (LOVES Dory.)
Quote a song lyric that sums up your year: "I'm waiting for my real life to begin...." (p.s. Monica I am pretty sure my Dad has been to Solsbury Hill... :))
To Monica (who I copied this from) I wish you all the luck in the world! And David... Keep showing us your amazing abilities. I know what an AMAZING child you are... To a great 2009.... for everyone!

Stayin' Alive by the Bee Gees |

Disco tune "Stayin' Alive" could save your life
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. doctors have found the Bee Gees 1977 disco anthem "Stayin' Alive" provides an ideal beat to follow while performing chest compressions as part of CPR on a heart attack victim.
The American Heart Association calls for chest compressions to be given at a rate of 100 per minute in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). "Stayin' Alive" almost perfectly matches that, with 103 beats per minute. CPR is a lifesaving technique involving chest compressions alone or with mouth-to-mouth rescue breathing. It is used in emergencies such as cardiac arrest in which a person's breathing or heartbeat has stopped. CPR can triple survival rates, but some people are reluctant to do it in part because they are unsure about the proper rhythm for chest compressions. But research has shown many people do chest compressions too slowly during CPR.
In a small study headed by Dr. David Matlock of the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria, listening to "Stayin' Alive" helped 15 doctors and medical students to perform chest compressions on dummies at the proper speed. Five weeks after practicing with the music playing, they were asked to perform CPR again on dummies by keeping the song in their minds, and again they kept up a good pace.
"The theme 'Stayin' Alive' is very appropriate for the situation," Matlock said in a telephone interview on Thursday. "Everybody's heard it at some point in their life. People know the song and can keep it in their head." The findings will be presented this month at a meeting of the American College of Emergency Physicians in Chicago.

This summer is nuts. I just finished my first counseling class. It was the graduate level psychology of substance abuse and counseling (A!). I can't wait to the rest of my counseling classes starting end of August. Along with my classes in the fall, I will also be TEACHING (well I will be a graduate teaching assistant but they still leave you in a classroom with undergrads!) an undergraduate research methods lab. *PHEW* I thought the beach life was supposed to be all lax and stuff... :P
I am working slowly but surely on forming a lit review for my thesis, developing a committee, and creating a proposal. Even though now I in the Masters Program for Counseling and General Psychology anymore and a thesis is no longer a requirement for me... I am still planning on completing one. Wish me luck. :).
I have a meeting in an hour with an old professor to talk about possibly getting on another project analyzing some data something else thats going as well that will probably take a couple weeks. Practice never hurts.
Starting Monday I am going to be a counselor at a 5 week day camp for kids(well mostly between the ages of about 10-21) with special needs (special abled kids!) As usual, I am sure I will learn more from them than they will from me. It isn't education based. It is fun based. It runs from about 7am (drop off) to about 5pm (pick up) with three groups of kids of about 10 and each group has at least 2 counselors and at least 1 counselor in training and then theres volunteers around. I am working the 9 to 5. Scheduled camp activities actually run from 9 to 3 and we do fun stuff like have water slides and petting zoo come. The idea is that a lot of parents have trouble finding someone to care for there guys over the summer and it's often imperative that they still work. So this company (shout out to Angelwood, Inc.) offers a cost efficient, fun alternative to having a babysitter everyday and their kids get all the socialization and fun and excitement of going to camp.
As an aside, I saw this on the internet and thought I had to post it... This Dave Spicer's (who from what I know has Asperger's and write's a lot)analogy of autistic people to different kinds of unusual rocks. I got it from YouTube but I am going to assume it's genuine.
I will never know what it's like to be autistic. I do know, however, that I can try to be a friend and a calming positive influence in these children's lives and try to make a difference in the ways I know and have learned how. And am I honored to have that opportunity. And when a child lets you in, it's the most beautiful thing on this planet. It's love. <3.

I am 21 (+ 5) today! I got cards from family. My brother and Amber (my Jax BFF) bought 6 balloons and 26 roses to class. Heh. The class sang happy birthday to me. My teacher (who happens to also be my thesis advisor) sang the theme song from Spongebob Squarepants (Mark and Amber got my two SS balloons... and a Spongebob lamp for my room... its kind of a long story...). They also got me fun beach stuff like a new beach bag and towels and a wheelbarrow and a mug... Sunday Funday ensues! :)
My parents got me an amazing fleur de lis necklace that I am in love with. :).
James sent me two fleur de lis wine glasses and a fleur de lis fan pull....
My friend Kristen from school got me a t-shirt that says "bow chica wow wow"... an ongoing joke with us. :) are we seeing a theme?
Hahaha.
I am so glad I am so loved. I am blessed.
It's weird to have my birthday without my parents. Without Jo. With my brother.
I know how lucky I am though to have so many people who love me. Happy birthday to me!

I woke up yesterday and the right side of my mouth was killing me. So after my meeting with my thesis advisor I went to the dentist and I have necrotizing gingivitus. Apparently it's related to stress. Wow.
All I know is that it hurts. He gave me some pain pills. And the mouthwash I have to use tastes really crappy.
Yay grad school. Hahaha.

Sarah, your subconscious mind is driven most by Love Your instinct to love and be loved is rooted very deeply in your subconscious and affects most of the decisions you make in life — whether you are aware of it or not.
You inspire people to experience their true feelings of love and act kindly towards others. You also value your personal relationships more than most people.
Your unique capacity to love may be greater than those around you, which means you may have more to give in relationships than your friends or romantic partners do.
Your psyche is very rich; the more you learn about it, the more you will understand who you really are.

I'm reading a book.
And the author said that a well known Yale Professor asked her the following question when the conversation turned to witches...
"When you think about witches at the stake, do you identify with the accused or those looking on?"
I immediately thought the witch. As did the author.

“Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying ‘I will try again tomorrow.’”
I saw this quote.
I like it.

how do you know when to say i love you first?
"Saying I love you is one of the most wonderful yet oddly unnerving experiences for someone in a new relationship. It says that you care about a person to an extent that they need to take notice (uh-oh!) It also says that you might think more of them than they think of you. Therein lies the problem!
As beings of conscience, we do not like rejection. It hits too close to home – too close to our deepest fears – to have it happen. Saying I love you is like asking rejection over for a cup of tea. It slips in the door rather quietly then slaps you upside the head so hard you can’t be sure which way is up. All the while you’re left wondering how and why it is you brought this on yourself. Beings of conscience have natural instincts to preserve their well being and making verbal gestures of love that could go unrequited sets this instinct off.
"I love you is the greatest thing one person can say to another."
Yet saying those magical words is just what you find yourself ready to do. Maybe it struck you when you were feeling tomatoes in the produce department at your local grocery store or perhaps it came over you while on the bus into work. Whatever the case, when it hit, you knew it was true. You probably weren’t around this special person at the time of enlightenment, otherwise you would have leaned over and said I love you right away, right? Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe you were and you did and you got stunned silence in return or a tight ‘I think you’re really great, too.’ The point is that only one thing matters here. That is that someone loves another person and has or should have the courage to say it.
HOW LONG IS LIFE? FOR MOST, NOT NEARLY LONG ENOUGH. IN THAT TIME YOU CAN ONLY SAY I LOVE YOU SO MANY TIMES. AGAIN, IT’S NEVER ENOUGH. IF YOU FEEL IT IN YOUR HEART, YOU OWE IT TO YOURSELF TO SAY IT. LOVE DOESN’T BELONG INSIDE OF YOU. SURE, YOU NEED TO LOVE YOURSELF, BUT IT’S SO MUCH BETTER TO LOVE SOMEONE ELSE. LET THEM KNOW WHEN YOU FEEL IT. SAY IT BECAUSE THERE COULD BE NO TOMORROW. SAY IT BECAUSE IT FEELS RIGHT. DON’T LOOK FOR IT IN RETURN. IT WILL FIND YOU IN TIME. (Emphasis by me).
The best advice that can be given is to be open about how you feel. Worrying about how it will be received isn’t the point. Say it when you mean it. I love you is the greatest thing one person can say to another. Even fear of rejection can’t stand in the way of that."

My furniture has gone. Today it is on a truck on its way to Jacksonville, Florida. I don't know how I feel... I mean I know I am really excited about going back to school... I have been ready for a long time. And, hypothetically, I am excited about the move... being back in touch with my brother... getting to do new things... living 10 minutes from the beach.
There is always a but... and the funny part is I always tell people everything after the word "but" doesn't matter to me because it normally equals doubts and excuses... BUT, HEY, don't I get to have doubts and excuses... :).
I swore when I moved to Georgia at 16 I would either move back to Philly or never move again. I lived here for a couple of months and developed bestfriends and relationships that, if not only because of my age, were stronger than anything in Philly. And then it became that I would never move from Atlanta.
And here I am, nearly 10 years later, preparing to move again. The move from England was drastic. The move from Philly to Atlanta was tragic... I am trying to predispose this move to a positive adjective.
I am leaving a lot. I mean my bestfriends of nearly 10 years, my parents base home, a boyfriend, and a whole lot of other things that I couldn't even try to quantify...
I just have to keep reminding myself it is for the best. And my bestfriends will come visit. And if David and his family come back to Atlanta... they can give me enough notice and I can be there in 5 hours!!!... and Grad School has been my dream since I graduated in 2004... and I am going to get to do what I have wanted for a very long time (unless M&A win the lottery and adopt me as David's full time nanny/tutor - DREAM JOB)... :)
I love all of you for supporting me.
*deep breath*
